Edward Hallett Carr, known to readers as E. H. Carr and to colleagues as Ted, was one of Britain’s foremost historians of the 20th century. Carr was born in North London to a family of liberal-progressive views and educated at Merchant Taylor’s School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated with a degree in classics in 1916.
